Evaluations for Asylum, U Visa, T-Visa, VAWA, and Extreme Hardship Immigration Cases

Maybe you survived violence, persecution or a journey that cost you everything.

Maybe you are trying to keep your family together in a country that has become home.

Maybe you are finally ready to tell your story

and you need someone who will listen with both clinical expertise and cultural understanding.

As a Jamaican-born licensed clinician I don't just understand the legal process. I understand the journey. I understand what it means to build a life in a new country. And I understand how much courage it takes to share your story with a stranger.

You are safe here. Your story will be treated with the care it deserves.

You've been through more than most people will ever understand.

I help you tell your story with the care and dignity it deserves.

WHAT IS A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION

Attorneys often request a psychological evaluation to document how abuse, hardship, persecution or family separation has affected your mental health and wellbeing.

As a licensed therapist I translate your lived experience into clear, clinically sound language that USCIS officers and immigration judges understand. My report becomes part of the evidence your attorney submits, giving your case the clinical documentation it needs.

My evaluation does one thing:it documents the emotional and psychological effects of your experience accurately, respectfully and on time.

I don't file your paperwork or give legal advice. Your attorney handles that.

My report gives your attorney something powerful to work with.

Hi, I’m Trecia Lewis

Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in New York, Massachusetts + Georgia.

I am a graduate of New York University with over 20 years of clinical experience. As a Jamaican-born woman, I bring not just clinical expertise but lived cultural understanding to every evaluation I conduct.

I offer gentle, culturally aware interviews, evidence-based assessment and comprehensive reports written in plain language that judges and USCIS officers can follow without legal translation.

EVALUATION TYPES

VAWA Self-Petition

For spouses, children or parents of U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have suffered domestic violence or extreme cruelty. Documents how the abuse has affected your mental health and safety to support your Form I-360 self-petition.

601 / 601-A Extreme Hardship Waiver

For those who are technically inadmissible but have a U.S. spouse or parent who would suffer greatly if they were forced to leave. Documents the extreme psychological hardship the qualifying relative would face — accompanying Form I-601 or I-601A.

Asylum Evaluation

For those who have been persecuted or fear future persecution because of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or social group. Provides clinical evidence of trauma linked to past persecution and the risk of harm if returned — supporting Form I-589.

U-Visa Evaluation

For victims of serious crimes including domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking who cooperated or are willing to cooperate with law enforcement. Documents substantial physical or mental abuse caused by the crime — supporting Form I-918.

T-Visa Evaluation

For survivors of human trafficking. Documents the psychological impact of trafficking and exploitation to support your T-Visa application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need an attorney first?

An attorney is highly recommended but not required. If you do not have one I can provide referrals to immigration attorneys in your area.

Is this therapy?

No. The evaluation is a single clinical assessment — not an ongoing therapeutic relationship. If you need therapy after your evaluation I am happy to provide referrals.

Can children be evaluated?

Yes, with parental consent and child assent when appropriate.

What languages do you support?

Sessions are conducted in English. Certified interpreters are available for other languages upon request.

Will you testify in court?

Yes. Deposition or live testimony is available for an additional fee.

How do I know if I need an evaluation?

If your attorney has recommended one or if you are filing for VAWA, Asylum, U-Visa, T-Visa or a Hardship Waiver — a psychological evaluation is likely an important part of your case. Reach out and we can discuss whether an evaluation is right for your situation.

What if I am not ready to talk about what happened?

That is completely understandable. The evaluation process is designed to be gentle and trauma-informed. We move at your pace. You will never be pushed to share more than you are ready to share. Your dignity and safety are the priority at every step.
